Gila Bend Wilderness

Size: Approximately 68,800 acres

The Gila Bend Mountains are a critical wildlife connection extending from the beautiful Eagletail Mountains Wilderness east toward the Gila River.  This vibrant network of mountains, valleys, and creosote plains provides an irreplaceable link for iconic Sonoran Desert species like Sonoran bighorn sheep, mountain lion, mule deer, and Sonoran desert tortoise.  Five new wilderness units were carefully crafted through this area to both protect natural and scenic values and provide as little impact to existing users as possible.
